TSA120-BINO first light report / ファーストライトの感動！

I thought you might like an update now that I have had some time to use the Bino-TSA120.
The binoscope is performing beautifully. The EMS-ULS system works so very well. It is a real pleasure to view through and has exceeded my expectations.
We recently compared the Bino-TSA with my friend’s Takahashi TOA150 which was equipped with the Baader MkV binoviewers.
The view through the binoscope was quite noticeably brighter than the TOA150 with binoviewers, in fact the Bino-TSA showed a brighter view than the TOA150 in mono-mode. Our targets were NGC104, NGC3372, NGC4755, M42 and M45.
The view of M42 in the binoscope was spectacular, with the ‘wings’ of nebula seemingly wrapped around the Trapezium stars.
The view showed also better contrast as well as the beautiful 3-dimensional effect.  Using a set of Takahashi Abbe and LE eyepieces at magnifications between 28x and 180x was easily accomplished and we had no trouble merging the images. The X & Y adjusters worked perfectly to ‘stack’ the images.
I have since then also spent a few hours viewing the Moon. Using the Takahashi Abbe 18mm eyepieces, the Moon took on a 3-dimensional look and seemed to just float there against the blackness of space almost as if I was in orbit above it.
I must also acknowledge Range for his excellent work in producing the cradle and adapters for me, they too are working faultlessly.

It is amazing!
Nothing is more happier New Year’s gift than such a report!
I can post your report both in my user’s report corner and my FACEBOOK at a time, can’t I?
You wrote your experience so eloquently that I feel as if I were there.
The mount is the traditional one in structure, but very well made and it looks very rigid.
The craftsmanship of Range on the frame is superb, too.
 I do wish you the best of look of this year with your fine Binoscope!

英語が母国語でない方も、ぜひスルーしないでメールの原文をお読みください。簡潔な文で、EMS-BINOの魅力を雄弁に語っておられます。
15cm単鏡筒＋双眼装置を圧倒したのは当然（たとえ10cm-BINOでも同様だったでしょう）ですが、理屈で論破するよりも、ユーザーさんの実体験はより説得力があります。＾＾　分解能等を持ち出して、単体鏡筒＋双眼装置の優位性を主張する方もいますが、今回のリポートにはそれを十分に喝破するものがあります。
フレーミングや架台のご選択も、確実で無難な方法であり、初めてのBINOとして正解だったと思います。赤道儀の極軸を垂直に立てた構造の経緯台は、かなり昔からマニアが用いて来た方法ですが、ウェイトの代わりにもう一台のBINOをセットすると、シンメトリックな外観になりますね。架台としては、よりシンプルな解を探したくなりますが、蛇足を加えてせっかくの正月のリポートをスポイルしてはいけないので、今回はここまで。
これ以上の正月のプレゼントはありません。＾＾

A simple dot-finder bracket / ドットファインダー用ブラケット

I usually cut the bracket out of the needless finder-bracket, but I would like to propose a simple idea of making one when you have no appropriate junk parts for it.
不要なファインダー脚のブラケット部を切り出しても良いですし、それが無いときには、こんなアイデアはどうでしょう。　使用環境によって、任意の長さ（高さ）に設定しやすい構造です。支柱部分が丸棒なので、好みの高さに加工しやすいはずです。

Reasonable solution for the cheap focuser / 安価なフォーカサーの改造

The reasonable Chinese achromatic OTA (F5)  series have been recognized as their good cost performances, but the small focuser and the lack of enough back-focus for the use of EMS was known as the only fault.
Replacing the focuser for larger and lower profiled ones is a good solution, but I am going to propose another reasonable solution.

中国製の安価なF5シリーズのアクロマートが、DeepSky用には十分な性能を発揮することが大分認知されて来ましたが、BINO化するにはバックフォーカスが少し足りないことと、フォーカサーも（内径が）少し小さく、心もとない（最悪、口径が蹴られる）ことが玉に瑕でした。
より高級な大きいフォーカサーと交換すれば良いことなのですが、予算がない方への選択肢として、フォーカサーの改造をよく施工させていただいていました。　以前は、無駄なドローチューブ末端を改造して短縮し、バックフォーカスも同時に追加確保するものでしたが、外筒内径を削ることで、一回り太いドローチューブと交換できないか？と、実験をしてみることにしました。（つづく）

Machining completed (EMS housings) / 機械加工完了→塗装工程

Additional machining of 40-pcs. of EMS housings is completed.
Ready to be painted, but all the companies here are at the year-end holidays.

昨日までにハウジングの追加工は完了したのですが、世の中すでに正月休みに入ってしまいました。　当方は、暦とは全く無関係に動いているので、祭日等にはいつも面食らいます。　塗装に出せるのは年明けになります。

AAS2+SKY-SAFARIのセットアップ、Wi-Fiを繋げるだけで一発でした。
お店までお邪魔した甲斐がありました。（もちろん全てのセッティングの仕方をご教授いただき、お話しできた事が大収穫でした。）   東京都　O  (2017,12/22)

What is the “Back-focus”？ / バックフォーカスとは？

Back focus is the length of the tail of light cone out of the drawtube.
バックフォーカスとは、対物レンズによる円錐光束の先端が鏡筒外に出ている長さのことです。

At planning your binoscope with some OTA, your first task is to decide the D in the diagram below and check the back-focus if it will accommodate the EMS or not.
BINOの計画の当初には、下図の”D”と共にチェックしないといけない大切な項目の一つです。

When your planning OTA has less back-focus for your plan, you can replace the end adapter, or the focuser for more low-profiled ones.
Cutting short the OTA tube is the last resort when you know all other measures are not enough.
昨今の高級鏡筒は昔よりもバックフォーカスが長い物が多く、少しバックフォーカスが足りない場合も、大抵は、ドローチューブ末端のアダプターを短い物に交換/改造するか、それでも足りない場合はフォーカサーをlow-profileな物と交換することで解決することがほとんどです。　鏡筒の切断短縮は最後の手段です。

この他、目幅調製の方法をどうするかも、一緒に決めておかないといけません。
片方の鏡筒を平行にスライドさせるか、EMSの目幅ヘリコイドを利用するかです。

Primordial EMS in my amateur days / 原初の試作EMS（初公開）

I would like to introduce the original prototype of EMS that had never shown before.  It is the very first prototype of my own crafting with no machine tools.
At that time,nearly forty years ago, I had no intention of marketing the EMS, but just wanted the diagonal mirror of the correct image.

創初期のEMSの試作品です。　と言っても、この時点では発売までは考えていませんでした。　これは地元の友人に長年託して（永久貸与＾＾；）いたもので、ごく最近、（役目を終えたとして）友人が返してくれたものです。
(その友人はEMSの黎明期よりの良き理解者であり、歴代のEMSの試作品は彼の所にあったものだから、「ウチは松本博物館だ。」と言っていました。＾＾）

望遠鏡との接続は、当時の最大規格である、36.4mmネジ込みでした。
（接眼部のスリーブはその後に現状に合わせて改造していますが。）

ミラーを交換しても、ミラー厚に影響なく光軸が再現できるように、型枠の裏側からミラーを当てる方式でした。　工作機械を持たない頃に、よくそこまでやったな、と我ながら思います。
それから紆余曲折を経て、結局はミラーは底部で固定する現在の方式に落ち着きました。

Liked by the walking dog / 散歩中の犬に好かれる

When I was closing the shutter of my shop this evening, a walking dog, a small Pomeranian, suddenly out its way to jump at me with joy all in her(his) body.
Her owner, a young mother, on the lead panicked and tried to stop her apologizing to me, but I said,
“No problem, I like dogs!” and cuddled and holded the dog showing happiness in all its body.
The dog was so happy with me that it would not like to move to its way home with the owner, and the owner had to pick her up to return to their way. It was a good day today. It is very rare to occur at the first meet with the stranger dog.

今日は珍しい体験をした。
夕方、店のシャッターを下ろしていたら、散歩中の犬に飛び付かれた。
リードの先の若いお母さん（小学生の息子さんと一緒だった。）が慌てて私に謝りながら犬（ポメラニアン？）
を制止しようとしましたが、

私：「問題ありません。犬は大好きだから。自分も以前、飼ってましたし・・・」

それにしても、初対面でこの喜びようは珍しい。しゃがんで抱き寄せ、ちょっと（人間で言う）脊柱起立筋（デッドリフトがよく効く）辺りを指圧してあげたところ、ますます興奮し、大喜び。＾＾；　犬は帰宅拒否になって動かなくなってしまい、やむなくオウナーさんが抱えて帰路に付かれた。＾＾；

今度また当店の前を通ったら、どんな反応をするのか楽しみだ。＾＾
