正立ミラーシステム(EMS)を開発した松本龍郎のサイト。 たった2回の反射で天体望遠鏡の像を正立像にします。
Tatsuro Matsumoto; Inventor of the EMS, Erecting Mirror System. EMS offers non reversed upright image with no additional undesirable abberations.
For the benefit of the EMS-BINO planners, I will show the anatomy of the “light path” of the EMS-UL. The total light path of the EMS consists of three parts.
Path “A” is the distance from the bottom of the barrel to the first reflection point, that is 2 + 18 = 20mm.Path “B” is the distance from the first reflection point to the second one, that is 18+2+12+2+18 =52mm.Path “C” is the distance form the second relfection point to the top surface of the 2-inch sleeve, that is 18 + 2 + 58 = 78mm. So, the total light path is A + B + C = 20 + 52 + 78 =150mm. *The light path of EMS-UL is shortened by 2mm on July 21,2017. Now, the correct light path of the standard EMS-UL is 148mm.(2018,11/05)
before: Pentax Helicoid extension tubesafter: New Matsumoto Original Helicoid optimized for Binocular use
Helicoid tubes and IPD-Crayford tubes, each has its merit and I have chosen one of them in the cases.
The main problems of the commercial helicoid tubes for camera parts are the lack of enough rididity and the end shape that needs to be processed to connect to other telescopic parts.
Now, I have successfully developed this new helicoid perfectly speciallized for binoscopic use.I can definitly say that it is more rigid than any other commercial helicoid tubes planned for camera parts. This is designed for the heavy use of binoscope back that will hold EMS and heavy oculars at a time. Both ends are tapered boss that will fit into the 50.8mm standard sleeves. This means it is easily used reversible on left or right EMS for the ergonomical hand operations.
This little binoscope is light in weight and small in size which makes it very transportable and usefull for quick observations. The basis is a set of FS60-CB telescopes with 2″ attachment. They were converted with a CSV tube to obtain 22 mm more backfocus. A set of 2″ EMS-UL was used to allow maximum field with minimum backfocus. Together with the new special EWV-adaptor, instead of the eyepiece barrel, backfocus is reduced another 18 mm. The EWV-32 mm eyepiece can now be used to obtain a magnificent 7.7 degree field at 11x power.
To have IPD adjustment the FS60 telesopes are mounted on double Lineair Translation Stage and Track from Edmund Scientific which fits very convenient to the mounting plate of a standard Vixen Forkmount. With the EMS 1-1/4″ adaptor Pentax SMC eyepieces are Parfocal with the EWV-32mm eyepiece. When a 3.5 mm Pentax SMC eyepiece is used with the FS60-EMS binoscope it shows crisp binoviews of Jupiter and the Moon at a stunning 101x power.
___________________ Addition:
Since the CSV tube is not available anymore I guess it should be possible to obain enough backfocus for the EMV 32 mm eyepiece with a shorter version of the EWV-adaptor.

Mr. Alexnander van Lemel has made his second binoscope, FS60-BINO, successfully after making his first one of TSA102-BINO
I would like to give him a biggest applause on his feat of building two binoscopes using my EMS, conquring the limitted information, and especially the language barrier. The only communicative language tool was English which was foreign language for each other.
I am also very appreciative of his generousity for allowing his full name and the link of his e-mail address appearing on his article. That will greatly help foreign guys especially in Netherlands who have the aspiration to build binoscopes someday.
Above is the test carving of the first LOGO that I have turned over for a few months. Each of the outline represents “M” of Matsumoto and in total, that represents a Binoscope.
I have done the careful kernings on the first logo.
