EMS-UML is the EMS-UL specialized light path of the EMS-UM.
EMS-UMLは、EMS-ULの光路長を極限まで切り詰めたタイプです。そのトリックは写真の通り。

EMS-ULS is harder to make than any other EMS types, and might not be continued to make ever. The special trick to squeeze the larger mirror in the same housing as -UL is the 65mm barrel for the normal 2″ barrel.
　ULSを積極的に宣伝して来なかったのは、製作が困難なことと、価格設定をその割に抑えていたからです。-ULと同じハウジングにより大きな第一ミラーを収納するトリックは、65mmΦバレルにあります。
　EMSシリーズは、ミラーサイズの種類を増やし過ぎたきらいがあり、将来的には優先度の低い種類は中止を検討するかも分かりません。

　after が随分小さく見えますが、長径は変わっていません。短径のみ削っています。ここまでは自動機械ですが、これからが手動削り、大変な作業になります。

It is taking a bit more time because I had to wait for another lot of housings to be painted. But it will be completed in another couple of days.

It’s nothing new to me because I am accustomed to see such lenses since childhood. But it would be very new for you to see it.

　私としては、（家業だったので）子供の頃から見慣れているレンズですが、-16.0Dの近視用のレンズだと、高屈折素材でもこんな感じです。これを削ってフレームに嵌め込まないといけません。

　写真に光路長の詳細を示しています。EMSは、非常にユーザーフレンドリーでフレキシブルな構造になっており、光路長の自由度が大きいため、公称値の枠を超えて使用できます。
　EMSの光路長が長いというのは、一回反射の天頂プリズムと同次元で比較した誤った認識で、正立光学系としては異例に光路長が短いシステムなのです。
　昨今の高級鏡筒はバックフォーカスが長いものが多く、通常仕様のEMS-ULでも合焦しない物は少なくなっています。ごく安価な鏡筒、あるいは保守性の強い鏡筒の一部でバックフォーカスが厳しい物も稀に見られますが。
　お手持ちの鏡筒のバックフォーカスの不足で悩む方がおられますが、多くの解決策があるにもかかわらず、自らの固定観念の呪縛で解決策を見逃しておられる場合が多く見られます。
　老舗ブランドの鏡筒が主役で、不可侵たるべき物（鏡筒の切断などはもっての他）と考え、天頂ミラーは周辺アクセサリーとして下位に属す物という認識だと、解決は遠のきます。EMSの製作者としての考えを率直に申し上げますと、人間工学的に正常な像を与えるEMSが主役であり、鏡筒を選択される段階でそれとのマッチングを考えておくべき、というものでございます。すでに上記不幸な鏡筒をお持ちであれば、それを改良（正常化）するのに躊躇される必要はありません。

I had made the special EMS-UL with the same light path of EMS-UM 10-years ago for the request of the repeater.
Now, I am making another one after about 10-years.
Squeezing the larger mirrors in the housing set up of EMS-UM requires the ultra-edging of the mirror which is rather painstaking task, but the effect is great.

The photo above explains the shape of the EMS-UML of 10-years ago.
I am making further effort to make the most of the mirror size utilizing the 10-year’s experience.

　EMS-UMLは、EMS-UMのハウジングに無理やり限外のサイズのミラーを押し込むもので、言い換えると、EMS-ULの光路長をEMS-UMに短縮するものです。
　EMS-ULと同じ価格設定にしていますが、加工の手間からすると割に合わず、リピーターの方を中心に受注しており、積極的に宣伝して来ませんでした。

　上のミラーサイズ（形状）の比較写真は、10年前のものですが、今回はさらに際どいミラーサイズの確保に挑戦してみようと思っています。当時は、斜鏡形状からの切削加工から始めていましたが、今回は最終形状のEMS-UL用の特注ミラーからの加工になるので、数段楽です。

　ほぼEMS-ULの光学的キャパ（有効実視界）でEMS-UMと同じ光路長、それがEMS-UMLです。
